Description
Found by the side of the road somewhere in upstate New York, this could be anywhere from a 1948 to a 1953 Dodge, but my guess is '48 due to the lack of chrome on the grill. The first new truck models since 1939, the 1948 Dodge pickups where referred to as the "Pilot-house" models, because of the all new cab with larger windsheild for better visibility and a higher, more spacious ceiling. The engines were moved forward and the front axles were moved back, resulting in better weight distribution when loaded and a shorter wheelbase, down to 108" from 116". Along with a redesigned steering mechanism, this resulted in a tighter turning radius and, according to Dodge, a more comfortable ride. The fact that the cab was now mounted on rubber mounts may also have had something to do with it. In any case it looked like someone was planning to restore it, so all is well.

In dodging the bullet, it caught teh rust. God damn... actually, apart from the rust, the shell looks pretty damn good.
