Description
This is my classic "old school" 1977 Hugh Porter training bike, made from Reynolds 531, a manganese-molybdneum alloy. Some of you may have heard me discuss this bike before, and how I repaired a broken Revox B-77 reel-to-reel tape machine (about 20 hours of work) in exchange for the (then twelve year-old frame) frame. Chrome-work and eyelet brazing was done by Marinoni, who also did the paint (the colour was chosen from a '63 Corvette I was particularly enamoured with at the time). Mr Marinoni also let me have that 53-tooth Campagnolo gear at a significant discount when I told him I was going to have to settle for a lesser brand; if you ever need a bike, I cannot recommend any other shop as highly.
I took this photo a while ago, but the bike is still the same, with the exception of pedals, I only have one "good" pair of pedals so they tend to get moved from one bike to another depending on my riding habits. This is the bike I once exceeded 99km/h on (about 62 MPH, and going downhill of course! )

fastest I ever reached was 56.1mph down a steep but curving hill with a long flat finish. what non racers do not realize is that after 40mph you have to work very hard to get even up to 50 on a steep hill.
